How to Create Custom Charts in Your Notion: A Step-by-Step Guide
Updated: April 6, 2026
Custom charts can elevate your Notion page, making it an invaluable tool for tracking, visualizing, and analyzing your data. By integrating custom charts with your Notion database, you can identify trends and make informed decisions with ease. This comprehensive guide walks you through the process of creating and embedding custom charts into your Notion page.
If you don't have an account, read this guide to set up your account.
Step 1: Add a New Chart #
Open your workspace page and click Add chart in the Charts section. You can also click Add new → Chart from the dashboard, or Add chart on the full chart list (View all in the Charts section).

In the Create chart window:
- Workspace: Already selected. If you only have one workspace it's shown as plain text; with several, pick one from the list.
- Notion Database: Pre-selected with the workspace's primary database (marked Default). Pick a different database from the list if this chart should read from another one.
Note: If your Notion database does not appear immediately, wait a moment. Right after you connect Notion or share a new page, NotionStats shows "Please wait while we load your databases…" and keeps checking on its own. You can also click the refresh icon next to the list. If nothing shows up, use Couldn't find your database? → Share access in Notion. It is normal and does not mean you did anything wrong.
Click Continue to open the chart editor.

Step 2: Select Your Chart #
The chart editor has a Templates section, a Settings section, and a Chart Preview section.
Templates Section #
Here you'll find several quick templates that you can use directly.
Chart Preview Section #
As you configure the settings, the chart updates in real time, allowing you to refine it. Once you're happy with it, click Save chart. The first save creates the chart and you stay in the editor. From then on, every change is saved automatically: the top bar shows Saving… and then All changes saved, so there is no Save button to press again.
Pick a template, change the chart type, and the preview updates as you go. Then click Save chart.
