Question 1

Why am I seeing 'Notion isn't connected' or 'No database selected'?

Accepted Answer

These messages mean NotionStats can't read your Notion data yet. Until Notion is connected and the workspace has a database, charts, milestones, and calendars can't be created. There are two different messages, and they need different fixes: "Notion isn't connected" (or "Notion access was revoked" ) — a banner at the top of your dashboard and workspace pages. NotionStats has no working connection to your Notion account. "No database selected" — a status chip in the top bar of a workspace page, plus a Choose database prompt. Notion is connected, but this workspace doesn't have a primary database yet. See What is a primary database? . Why "Notion isn't connected" happens # You just signed up and haven't connected Notion yet. You removed NotionStats from your Notion Connections (Notion settings → My connections ), which revoked access on Notion's side. The banner then reads Notion access was revoked . You cancelled on Notion's consent screen. See I cancelled the Notion connection. What now? . How to fix it # Click Connect Notion (or Reconnect Notion ). You'll be redirected to Notion's connection page. Check the page(s) that contain the database(s) you want NotionStats to read. Sub-pages and databases inside a shared page are shared automatically. Click Allow access . You're redirected back to NotionStats and the banner disappears. If you started from a workspace, you land on that workspace's page. If you don't see your databases right after linking, give Notion a few seconds to index the shared pages. NotionStats keeps checking for a short while on its own. See Why are there no options when I try to select a Notion database? for more details.

Question 2

Why does my chart, milestone, or calendar say 'Not linked to any Notion database'?

Accepted Answer

This message appears on a chart, milestone, or calendar card when the linked Notion database can no longer be accessed. The two most common causes are: The Notion database was deleted or moved to the trash inside Notion. The page or database was disconnected from the NotionStats integration in your Notion connections. If a whole workspace is affected, its status chip in the top bar of the workspace page reads Database unavailable and a prompt asks you to Reconnect the primary database . Click it, pick another database from the list, or re-share the original with NotionStats. See What is a primary database? . How to fix it # 1) Edit the card and select a database # In NotionStats, click the Edit button on the chart, milestone, or calendar card. Select the correct Notion database from the database dropdown, then save the card. If the dropdown does not show any database options, NotionStats does not currently have access to a database you can select. Use the Notion fixes below, then come back and select the database again. 2) Reconnect the integration in Notion # Open Notion and navigate to the database (or the page that contains it). Click ... (top right) → Connections → connect Stats . Read this guide for more ways to fix this. If you still don’t see the database in the dropdown # Make sure the database is not in Trash in Notion. Re-check Connections on the database page (the integration must be connected to the page/database you’re using). If the original database was deleted, restore it or create a new one , then link it from the card settings (or create a new chart/milestone/calendar pointing to a different database).

Question 3

Why are there no options when I try to select a Notion database?

Accepted Answer

When the database dropdown inside the chart or milestone modal is empty, NotionStats has not received any databases from your Notion workspace yet. This usually happens for one of two reasons: You just linked your Notion workspace and Notion is still indexing the shared pages. This typically takes a few seconds to a couple of minutes. You haven't shared any pages or databases with the NotionStats integration yet. What you'll see # Right after you link Notion, NotionStats checks for your databases every few seconds and shows Please wait while we load your databases… (or Waiting for Notion to share your databases… in the primary database window). This stops on its own once the list stops changing. If nothing arrives after about ten seconds, it tells you No databases were shared with NotionStats and shows a Choose pages in Notion button. Click it, select the page that contains your database, and click Allow access — you'll come back to the same workspace. How to fix it # Click the refresh button next to the database dropdown to fetch the latest list from Notion. If the dropdown is still empty, share at least one page or database with the integration (see the next FAQ). Wait a minute and refresh again — newly shared databases can take a short while to appear.

Question 4

How do I share a Notion page or database with NotionStats?

Accepted Answer

NotionStats can only read pages and databases you explicitly share with the integration. Sub-pages and databases inside a shared page are shared automatically. There are two ways to do it — most users use the first one. Option 1: From NotionStats (recommended) # This is the most common flow, and every Connect Notion , Create and link , Choose pages in Notion , and Update the Notion connection button inside the app uses it. You can start the flow from any of these places: Creating a new workspace — click Add new → Workspace , fill out the form, and click Create and link . If Notion is already connected, tick Also link this workspace to another Notion page instead. From a workspace's primary database window — on a workspace page, click the status chip (or Choose database ), then Update the Notion connection to re-share it at the bottom of the window. From settings — open Settings and, in the Notion workspace card, click Manage connection . While creating a chart, milestone or calendar — click Couldn't find your database? , then click Share access in Notion (the green button with the Notion icon). After you click any of those, Notion will open its connection page where you choose what to share: Click Select pages (or pick from existing pages) and check the page(s) that contain the database(s) you want NotionStats to read. Click Allow access . You'll be redirected back to NotionStats — to the workspace you started from, when there is one — and your databases will appear in the database list. NotionStats waits for Notion to share them. If they still don't appear, click the refresh icon next to the dropdown. Option 2: From inside Notion # You can also share a single page directly from Notion without going through NotionStats: Open the page that contains your database in Notion. Click the ... menu in the top right corner of the page. Select Connections and search for Stats . Confirm access on the prompt that appears. After either option, head back to NotionStats and click the refresh icon in the database dropdown to pick up the new database. If you still don't see it after a minute, double-check that the page you shared actually contains the database (or share the database directly). g

Question 5

My Notion data isn't showing up or looks outdated. What should I do?

Accepted Answer

NotionStats fetches data from Notion on demand. If a chart or calendar looks empty or out of date: Refresh the page to re-fetch data from Notion. Make sure the database is still shared with the NotionStats integration in Notion. Confirm your rows have the columns and values your chart or calendar expects (for example a date column for calendars, or a numeric column for value-based charts). If the data still doesn't appear, the issue is almost always a sharing or schema problem inside Notion rather than NotionStats itself. Open the database in Notion, verify the integration is still connected, and check that the rows have the expected property types.

Question 6

Can I connect multiple Notion workspaces or databases?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can add multiple Notion workspaces from the dashboard, and each workspace can have several databases linked to charts, milestones, and calendars. Use the workspace switcher at the top of the dashboard to move between them, or jump straight into a workspace's charts, milestones, or calendars from its workspace card.

Question 7

How do I disconnect or remove a Notion workspace?

Accepted Answer

From the dashboard, open the workspace card's actions menu (the ... button in the top right of the card) and choose Delete Workspace . This removes the workspace and all of its charts, milestones, and calendars from NotionStats. To revoke access on Notion's side as well, go to your Notion settings → My connections and remove Stats . After that, NotionStats will no longer be able to read any pages or databases from that Notion account.

Question 8

My issue isn't listed here. How do I get help?

Accepted Answer

You can reach our support team from the Contact page . We typically respond to all inquiries within 24 hours. If you're hitting a bug or want to request a feature, you can also use the Help button inside the dashboard to open a feedback form.

Question 9

Can I use NotionStats with my existing Notion database?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You don't need to use one of our templates. NotionStats works with any Notion database that has at least one date, number, or select property. To use an existing database: Create a new workspace from the dashboard. When choosing What do you use this workspace for? , pick Other if your database doesn't match Finance, Habits, Fitness, Subscriptions, or Trading. Link or share the database with NotionStats from the workspace setup step. Open the chart editor and configure chart type, axes, labels, and filters manually. For a full walkthrough, read How to Create Analytics From Any Notion Database . If you run into sharing issues, see How do I share my Notion database with the integration? .

Question 10

What does the Other workspace type mean?

Accepted Answer

When you create a workspace, NotionStats asks What do you use this workspace for? The choices include Finance, Habits, Fitness, Subscriptions, Trading, and Other . Other is for custom Notion databases that don't match one of the built-in templates. Picking Other does two things: Skips the template-specific chart and calendar presets (because we don't know your database schema). Opens the chart editor directly to the manual settings, letting you choose chart type, X-axis, Y-axis, label, and filters yourself. Use Other when you have a database like a reading log, content calendar, CRM, sales pipeline, or any custom tracker. For a step-by-step walkthrough, read How to Create Analytics From Any Notion Database .

Question 11

Which Notion property types work best with charts?

Accepted Answer

NotionStats reads your Notion properties to build charts, calendars, and milestones. Different chart types expect different property types: Date property — use for time-series charts (line, bar over time) and for calendars. Number property — use for the value you want to sum, average, or chart on the Y-axis. Select or Status property — use for grouping (e.g. spending categories, trading setups, habit types). Checkbox property — use for completion tracking. NotionStats can count checked rows as a value. Formula property — supported as long as the formula's output is a number, date, or string. Title property — works as an X-axis when you want to group by row name (e.g. completion count per habit). For deeper guidance, read How to Structure Notion Database Properties for Better Analytics .

Question 12

Can I change what a workspace is used for after creating it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can change the primary template type of a workspace at any time: Open the dashboard and find the workspace card. Click the Edit option for that workspace. Update What do you use this workspace for? to a different template type or to Other for custom databases. Save the changes. Switching template types affects which chart presets are shown in the editor. If you switch to Other , presets are hidden and you'll configure each chart manually. See What does the Other workspace type mean? and the custom database guide for what that looks like. If you manage multiple workspaces, see How do multiple workspaces work? .

Question 13

Why don't I see template presets in the chart editor?

Accepted Answer

If the chart editor opens without any presets to choose from, the workspace's primary template type is set to Other . Template presets are tuned to specific database schemas (Finance, Habits, Fitness, Subscriptions, Trading). For workspaces that use a custom database, we hide presets because we don't know which properties to map. You'll need to configure each chart manually: Pick a Chart Type (bar, line, pie, etc.). Choose the X-axis property (often a date or category). Choose the Y-axis property (a number, formula, or checkbox). Optionally add filters or turn on cumulative mode. If you'd rather use presets, edit the workspace and change its template type to one that matches your database. See Can I change what a workspace is used for after creating it? . For a complete walkthrough of building charts manually, read How to Create Analytics From Any Notion Database and explore NotionStats charts .

Question 14

What is a primary database, and how do I change it?

Accepted Answer

Every workspace has a primary database : the Notion database it reads from by default. When you add a chart, milestone, or calendar to the workspace, that database is already selected for you. It's a default, not a lock — you can still point any individual chart, milestone, or calendar at a different database, and existing ones keep the database they were created with. You'll see its state as a chip in the top bar of the workspace page: Connected — the workspace has a primary database. No database selected — Notion is connected but no primary database is set yet. Database unavailable — the primary database was deleted or is no longer shared with NotionStats. Set or change it # Open the workspace page. Click the status chip in the top bar (or Choose database in the prompt). Pick a database from the list. It saves immediately and shows Saved ; if it replaced an earlier database, click Undo in the confirmation to put it back. Can't find your database? Use Update the Notion connection to re-share it at the bottom of the window. See How do I share a Notion page or database with NotionStats? . When it's set for you # NotionStats picks the primary database automatically when the choice is unambiguous: Right after you link Notion: if only one database was shared, or one is named exactly like the template database for your workspace type ( trades db for Trading, finance database for Finance, habit database for Habits, fitness db for Fitness, subscription db for Subscriptions). You'll see a Primary database set to … message with a Change button. When you create a workspace on an existing Notion connection (without linking again): only if a database has the exact template name above. If neither applies, or you chose Other , the choice is left to you. Nothing is changed on workspaces that already have a working primary database.

Question 15

I cancelled the Notion connection. What now?

Accepted Answer

If you close or cancel Notion's consent screen, NotionStats brings you back to the workspace you started from and shows a Connection cancelled message with a Reconnect button. Nothing was changed. If Notion wasn't connected before, the message reads Connection cancelled and the workspace stays unconnected until you try again. If Notion was already connected, it reads Reconnect cancelled and says your existing connection is unchanged. To try again, click Reconnect , then on Notion's page choose the pages to share and click Allow access . You can dismiss the message with the X if you don't want to reconnect right now. Having trouble connecting? See Why am I seeing 'Notion isn't connected' or 'No database selected'? .

Question 16

I connected a different Notion workspace and my charts show as disconnected

Accepted Answer

NotionStats shows You connected a different Notion workspace when the Notion workspace you just authorized isn't the one you connected before. Your existing workspaces, charts, calendars, and milestones were built on databases in the previous Notion workspace, so they can't be read through the new connection and appear as disconnected. Option 1: Go back to the previous Notion workspace # Connect again and choose the original Notion workspace on Notion's page. Your charts and embeds start working again, and nothing needs to be rebuilt. Option 2: Keep the new Notion workspace # Open each NotionStats workspace and choose a primary database from the new Notion workspace (see What is a primary database? ). Then edit each chart, milestone, and calendar and select its database again — see Why does my chart, milestone, or calendar say 'Not linked to any Notion database'? . The banner stays until you dismiss it with the X . A workspace may show Connected for a moment right after you switch, before NotionStats finishes rechecking its database; it changes to Database unavailable shortly afterwards.
