How to Embed Live Charts and Calendars in Notion
Updated: May 28, 2026

Charts that live in another tab don't get looked at. The whole point of NotionStats is that every chart, calendar, and milestone you build comes with an embed URL you can drop into Notion. This guide walks through the embed flow end-to-end and answers the questions we hear most often about live data, themes, and refreshes.

Why embeds matter #
Notion is where most people make decisions — opening a separate analytics dashboard to check on numbers adds friction. Live embeds put the chart right next to the database it summarizes:
- Your finance dashboard sits beside your transactions database.
- Your habit calendar sits inside your habit page.
- Your trading P/L sits at the top of your journal.
Because the embed is just a URL, it's always live — every time the Notion page loads, the embed re-fetches the data.
Step 1: Create or pick a chart in NotionStats #
Open the workspace that contains the database you want to embed from. From there, pick a chart, calendar, or milestone you've already built — or create a new one. Every output of NotionStats (chart, calendar, milestone) has its own embed URL.
If you're starting from scratch:
- Charts: see How to Create Custom Charts in Your Notion.
- Calendars: see Step-by-Step Guide to Adding a Custom Calendar.
- Milestones: see How to Create and Track Milestones.
Step 2: Copy the embed URL #
On the dashboard, every chart, calendar, and milestone card has a copy icon. Click it to copy the embed link.
The URL looks something like:
https://notionstats.com/embed/chart/xxxxxxxxxxxx
That's a complete, ready-to-paste embed link.
Step 3: Paste into Notion with /embed #
In Notion:
- Open the page where you want the chart.
- Type
/embedand select Embed. - Paste the embed URL and press Enter.
- Resize the embed block — drag the bottom corners to fit the page width.
Tip: for tighter dashboards, put two or three embeds side-by-side using Notion's column layout.
Theme and styling #
NotionStats embeds detect the active Notion theme and render in matching light or dark mode. You don't need to configure anything — the embed reads the parent Notion page's theme and updates if it changes.
If you prefer a fixed theme (always light or always dark, regardless of Notion's theme), use the theme option in the embed configuration before copying the URL.
How embeds refresh #
Live data is the point. The exact refresh behavior:
- The embed re-fetches data from your Notion database every time the Notion page is loaded.
- Manually refreshing the Notion page also refreshes the embed.
- Inside the embed, clicking refresh forces a re-fetch without reloading Notion.
For most use cases, this means: "Open the Notion page → see the latest numbers." There's no caching layer in your way.
Troubleshooting #
- Embed shows "Not linked to any Notion database" — the underlying Notion database is no longer shared with the integration. See Why does my chart say not linked?.
- Embed shows empty data — confirm rows exist and that filters aren't excluding everything. See My data isn't showing up.
- Embed is too small — drag the corners of the embed block in Notion to resize. The chart adapts responsively.
- Embed fails to load — the most common cause is pasting an incomplete URL. Re-copy from the dashboard and try again.
Where to embed next #
Once you're comfortable with one embed, the natural next step is to build a small dashboard inside Notion that combines a calendar, a chart, and a milestone card. That gives you a single page where the database, the analytics, and the goals all live together — and where every refresh is automatic.
Ready to try? Open the dashboard, create a chart, and paste the link into Notion.
